Well, it seems as if only the other day, Mmm, I can’t believe how time slips away. Gotta get up to go, don’t know when, oh, I will see you hanging around. Remember what I said; in time your going to pay
Remember what I said: “In time, you are going to pay”. That’s a very good quote from my favorite novel; “The Time Slips Away”. Let me reread that for a moment. “In time, you are going to pay”. That pretty much covers my life for that matter. Now then, lets move on to June, 1970.
Here’s what happens in “The Time Slips Away”: Jim, who was the head of the Nashville recording studio has a heart attack and dies. His wife accepts his love and support, Jim passes away and is buried in their backyard along with their dog. The next morning, they find Jim’s cane, which had turned black, and a ring of dust inside of it. Their daughter, Nan, who was married to Jim for 27 years, is devastated by his death. A few months later, Nan finds out that Jim had a voice recordable voice box and buried it somewhere in their backyard.
It so happens: that Nan had been listening to the same country music radio station as her late husband every night when he passed away. One day while listening to the program, she got the call back to say that Jim had died. So, as you can see, how time slips away is not such a bad thing after all. You see, as time slips away, we get closer to each other.
As people grow older: they get less in touch with those who have been there before; most people only keep in touch with the immediate family members left behind. I don’t know how many times a month, a year or longer, I hear someone say to me, “I’ll never know him again,” or “I can’t remember him as I used to.” Those types of memories, those are the memories that last forever.
People die all around the world; more than 5 million people die in the United States alone every year. There is no way anyone can ever know another person unless they have talked, met, or seen them. How much easier then to let those memories slip from our minds and pretend that there are not even any memories, because some day those memories will be gone too.
This is why I urge you to not only make the most of your time, but to share your time with others.
